Course Description
Sailing in Chicago is spectacular! Come learn about sailing in a fun, informative class that will provide you with a firm understanding of the principles of sailboat handling. You will learn the principles of wind and water that sailors have refined over centuries. You will learn sailing terms, language, the parts of a boat, and how to enjoy the water safely; with nothing more than nature’s silent power. Along the way you will have the opportunity to meet experienced sailors and share their love of the sport. By the end of the course, At the end of this class you will have confidence in your ability to take the next step in a lifetime sport that is not limited by age, athleticism or gender.
In addition to all the above, you will meet members of the Chicago area Tartan 10 fleet, the most active and competitive keelboat racing fleet in the Midwest. More, you will find out how to become a member of this group as a crew member on one of these boats.
This course is only intended as an introduction to the world of sailing. Even though this course will teach valuable concepts and skills, it is not a substitute for approved on-the-water instruction. Participants should seek additional training before venturing offshore unassisted.
